In Champagne, France, an angler recently reeled in a remarkable goldfish, setting a new record. This hefty catch weighed in at a whopping 50 kilograms, making it a standout in the world of fishing.

The colossal goldfish, affectionately named The Carrot, was released into BlueWater Lakes’ carp fishery two decades ago. Over the years, it has grown to become one of the largest specimens worldwide, doubling in size since its initial introduction.
Comparing it to the fish pictured above, The Carrot is twice as massive, showcasing its impressive growth over the years.
Take a look at this extraordinary catch!

The diverse array of goldfish breeds are all robust, golden variations of domesticated carp, exhibiting a fascinating range of colors. Some are even crossbred with other fish like koi, as exemplified by The Carrot.
The Carrot, being a hybrid of carp and koi, had the liberty to roam for two decades, resulting in her weight surpassing 50 kilograms. Andy Hackett from Worcestershire, UK, spent 25 minutes reeling her in before capturing a few selfies and releasing her back into the water.

As highlighted by IFL Science, The Carrot’s colossal size serves as a cautionary tale against releasing pets into the wild. Despite their hardiness, goldfish can attain such massive proportions, disturbing the ecosystem by disturbing the sediment bed and uprooting unfamiliar plants. Instances of oversized ex-pet goldfish causing issues have been noted in various parts of America, with authorities attributing part of the responsibility to pet owners.
Dumping goldfish into natural waters poses the risk of introducing an invasive species that may outcompete native species for resources, a situation best avoided.
