Josephine, also known as “Pheenie,” was abandoned when her owner was deported. She sought shelter behind a shipping container in a junkyard, which barely protected her from the weather. For 9 years, she lived there alone, surviving on scraps given by the townspeople. But eventually, she couldn’t go on.
Because of the long-term stress and lack of care, Pheenie’s health got worse as she got older. She got hit by a truck and lost her right eye. She also had a spinal cord infection, bad teeth, a urinary tract infection, and painful tumors in her breasts.
This sad movie shows Hope For Paws volunteers trying to rescue Pheenie from her lonely life. Even though it was hard, Pheenie realized that someone had come to help her in her old age. She looked relieved and hugged her rescuers, but she also seemed sad.
Pheenie was placed in a special foster program to meet her increasing medical needs. For 5 wonderful months, she lived happily on a big farm with lots of love and care. Sadly, she passed away from old age. Even though she had a tough life, her last days were full of love. Rest in peace, Pheenie.
