In August 2021, we received a phone call regarding a small, wounded puppy named Bongo. Upon our arrival, we noticed that one of his hind legs had suffered a severe injury, resulting in the complete removal of the skin and the exposure of underlying tissue and muscle. Additionally, Bongo had several puncture wounds on his body and a significantly elevated body temperature, raising doubts about his chances of survival.
In spite of the challenges, we commenced the process of raising his body temperature and combating the infection in order to provide him with a chance to recover. Nevertheless, due to his extremely weakened state, we were aware that surgery could not be considered as an immediate solution. Therefore, our primary focus was on enhancing his strength to the maximum extent possible.

Bongo demonstrated his prowess as a warrior, exhibiting a robust appetite and a zest for life. Following several weeks of dedicated care, we successfully performed the amputation of his injured limb and effectively treated the infection. Despite the arduous road that lay ahead, significant strides had been made, and Bongo was finally relieved of any pain.

Bongo’s wound required a minimum of two months for proper healing, and throughout this duration, he experienced some issues with weak bones in his legs. Nevertheless, through adequate nourishment and attentive care, his body gradually regained equilibrium, enabling him to steadily progress towards full recovery.

Currently, Bongo is thriving, finding solace in his three-legged state, and even trying out for the role of a “lawn mower.” Despite the initial doubts about his survival when he was first taken under our wing, Baby Bongo’s journey towards healing serves as a testament to the undeniable significance of rescue efforts.
