To mark the arrival of autumn, the Oregon Zoo hosted its 23rd annual Squishing of the Squash festival, showcasing the playful antics of the elephants.
The main attraction of the event was watching the elephants smash and enjoy giant pumpkins, offering a delicious treat for these large animals.
During the festival, the resident elephants delighted in the festivities, gleefully stomping and crushing the enormous pumpkins to savor their tender and delicious insides.
As a consequence, a few of the elephants sported orange-colored trunks, proudly displaying their enthusiastic involvement.
A generous supply of 1,200 pounds of orange-colored pumpkins was provided for the elephants to crush and enjoy.
The group of elephants had a great time, fully enjoying the playful activity of crushing and eating the pumpkins.
This yearly tradition at Oregon Zoo not only offers entertainment but also helps to mentally stimulate the elephants.
Yet, it wasn’t only the elephants that relished these seasonal delights. Other zoo residents, such as ring-tailed lemurs, river otters, and porcupines, were also given smaller pumpkins to interact with.
Watching the elephants stomp and crush the giant pumpkins was a sight that brought joy to both the zoo’s animals and animal enthusiasts.
The harmless smashing was a fun spectacle, making the Squishing of the Squash festival an enjoyable experience for all participants.
