Over 25 years ago, during one of his dives, Hiroyuki Arakawa had a remarkable encounter with Yoriko, an enigmatic Asian sheepshead wrasse. This meeting sparked an extraordinary connection that transcended the boundaries between humans and the aquatic world.
Since their initial encounter, the bond between Arakawa and Yoriko has grown into a deep and lasting friendship. Whenever Arakawa approaches a shrine, a simple tap on a piece of metal calls Yoriko, who promptly appears by his side. In a video, Arakawa can be seen sharing a tender kiss with his aquatic companion, symbolizing their exceptional bond.

In the experiment, tropical archerfish were taught to identify human faces by spitting water at specific images displayed on a screen. Remarkably, even when presented with unfamiliar faces, they successfully recognized the faces they had previously learned, exceeding expectations.
